Who We Help

FURNISHING HOMES WITH LOVE

Over 75% of those we have served earn less than $20,000 a year and are struggling to meet basic needs. Their need may be the result of starting over after homelessness, domestic abuse, fire/flood, incarceration, or medical/behavioral health issues. Many are veterans, single parents, or elderly. We do not require paperwork showing proof of need.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

John * and his wife adopted their 4 grandchildren because the children's parents could not properly care for them. We were able to provide beds, living room and dining room furniture. He also picked out a desk and chair for homework! Through tears he shared the heavy responsibility of stepping up at their age to care for the grandkids is covered by God's love. John's smile grew broader throughout his time with us. Just the right piece of artwork (in photo) was the cherry on top.

The Askers *

Immigrants Seeking a Better Future

The Askers* recently immigrated from Turkey with nothing, hoping to provide a better future for their children. They came to us because they desperately needed furniture for their new home. It turned out that one of our volunteers serving that day had visited Mr. Asker’s hometown this past year, providing an opportunity for connection. There are no accidents. She was able provide assurance that they are welcome here.

Tonya *

Family Just Scraping By

Tonya* has custody of her 6- & 9-year-old granddaughters following the tragic death of her daughter from domestic violence. While fighting for custody and paying attorney fees, she lost her job, her house, and her car was repossessed. Seeking a new start, she left South Carolina with her granddaughters and moved to Pittsburgh with her boyfriend. When that relationship ended, she found herself homeless once again. It took some time, but she was able to find a decent job and qualify for housing, but she told us she is still barely scraping by and couldn’t afford to properly furnish their home. She was amazed at all the furniture we were able to provide, and especially overjoyed with an oversized rocker/glider chair with matching ottoman and two cute pink lamps for the girls.

The Blessing Board exists to support those in our community facing furniture insecurity or furniture poverty.
