Helping Our Neighbors
The Blessing Board, a 501(c)(3) organization, was established on May 23, 2010, in response to Christ’s call to help our neighbors. Our mission is to provide furniture and household items to families in our community who are in dire need of these essentials as others who are more fortunate no longer require them.
Originally located in an industrial park in Penn Hills, The Blessing Board later expanded into warehouses in Oakmont and McKeesport, and today operates in Shaler and West Mifflin. Throughout every move and season of growth, the mission has remained unchanged. As of 2025, more than 16,000 families have been served—impacting over 36,000 individuals, including 16,000 children under the age of 18. Along the way, the organization has distributed more than 230,000 household items and kept 8.6 million pounds of furniture out of local landfills. Last year alone, over 600 volunteers generously gave 19,000 hours of their time to make this work possible.
What started as a small grassroots organization has grown into a professionally managed organization that serves over 1,500 families annually at its two locations in Shaler and West Mifflin. The 24,000 square foot facility in Shaler, conveniently located off Route 8, offers easy access to the northern regions of Pittsburgh. On the other hand, the 28,000 square foot warehouse in West Mifflin, situated off Lebanon Road, provides access to the southern regions. Notably, the Vintage Market at the Shaler Location is a highly successful resale shop that currently contributes approximately 20% of The Blessing Board’s million-dollar budget. The organization relies heavily on the support of individuals and groups of volunteers who provide much-needed assistance to its dedicated staff.
